Choose Your Next Career – With No Regrets

Some clients know what they want to do, but aren’t making much progress. Others don’t yet know what type of work would be meaningful and rewarding. And a few clients have numerous dreams and can’t decide which one to pursue.

I didn’t fall into any of these categories. I literally bumped into my dream job when
I hired a coach for myself. Not only did I find the coaching process to be life-changing, I also thought my coach had THE COOLEST JOB. I have no doubt I was guided to this realization and life path. You don’t have to wait to collide with your best career. You can be proactive instead.

1) Expect The Irrational. Many clients are highly successful in their jobs, but they aren’t enjoying the work. When I ask how they chose their career, I often hear something like, “My dad is an attorney and we think alike — so I went to law school.” Sounds rational. Well, here’s the kicker…I can almost guarantee that your work passion is not going to be rational. Because passion is not rational! If you want to fall in love with your work, it’s time to let go of intellectual, logical decision-making.

2) Don’t Be A Dream-Squasher. Start to notice what in the world grabs your attention — and DON’T ANALYZE IT. Your overbearing intellectual side may want to pick apart the very things that are calling to you. Resist that urge and simply make note of what catches your eye. These are clues to your heart’s desires.

3) Consider The Ifs. Write down the first thing that comes to mind. Go for spontaneity, not practicality.

If I could make anything, it would be…

If I were creative enough, I would…

If I just had the time, I would…

If I could do one thing in life that I have not done yet, it would be…
